Campus, a college startup backed by Sam Altman, has announced a major leadership addition and acquisition that could reshape its technological future. The company revealed that Jerome Pesenti, formerly Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at Meta, will join Campus as its new Head of Technology.

Alongside his appointment, Campus will acquire Pesenti’s AI learning company, Sizzle AI, for an undisclosed sum. Sizzle AI, known for its personalized, AI-driven educational tools used by over 1.7 million learners, will be fully integrated into the Campus platform.

According to Campus founder and chancellor Tade Oyerinde, this acquisition accelerates the company’s product roadmap by as much as two to three years. By combining Campus’s existing model with Sizzle AI’s adaptive learning technology, the platform aims to tailor education more effectively to each student’s unique learning style and pace. “This is a game changer,” Oyerinde told CNBC, emphasizing the impact of this move on Campus’s long-term mission.

Campus was created to modernize and democratize the community college experience, focusing on “maximizing access to world-class education.” The platform offers accredited associate degree programs taught by adjunct professors from elite universities such as Stanford, Princeton, and New York University.

Currently, over 3,000 students are enrolled in Campus programs. Tuition is set at $7,320 per academic year, and students can apply Pell Grants toward their studies. The startup also provides each learner with a laptop, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, a personal success coach, and around-the-clock tutoring services. Professors teaching through Campus reportedly earn more than $8,000 per course.

Since its founding, Campus has attracted significant attention and investment from some of the biggest names in tech and venture capital. The company has raised more than $100 million from backers including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, General Catalyst, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, and Figma CEO Dylan Field.

With Pesenti’s arrival and the integration of Sizzle AI, Campus is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-driven education. The partnership marks a strategic step toward redefining how higher education can leverage artificial intelligence to deliver a more personalized and accessible learning experience for students worldwide.
